there’s nothing like a summer’s day in the country to give you some balance in life and piece of mind. my recent outdoor adventure was initially a mishap as we made our way to the super aesthetics of kempton market with a 5am start out of london- we were in fact a week early. ouch. (this treasure trove of best antique buys from the uk and europe is awesome as i have said before – make it anytime if you can. it will not disappoint. i repeat it will not disappoint!) instead of making our way back to the bright lights and bushy tails of the big city we decided to head for green and make the most of what was looking to be a very promising sunny summers day. hooray. first stop – stonehenge, amazing but just not close enough… and then super-sweet strawberries picked from the field just below where we bought them, a stop-off to buy home-made jam and victoria sponge from local grannies who couldn’t get enough of us city folk, a picnic upon rolling hills, miles of drive through super green countryside and the grand finale – a visit to stourhead. here at this national trust home and garden we made our way through the grand art and interior design of the palladian mansion and then spent the afternoon frolicking in the 18th century garden. a perfect day and an inspiring insight into the life and style of england’s privileged and proud heritage. you can become a member of the national trust here which allows super discounts on all their homes and gardens – make a country day of it. its good to get out of the big city.
