print and embellishment has never been the essential part of what justin thornton and thea bregazzi have done at preen, known more for their razor-sharp cut + twist also their beginnings in deconstruction. however, it was the sophisticated geo-florals and heavy metal beading as seen in their very recent a/w 2011 show above and below that finished off and set it apart, this very polished look – a keen balance of tailoring and fluidity. a kaleidoscope of stars and prisms inspired by the northern californian arts and crafts movement were hand embroidered, block printed and knitted to full effect in starburst colours. upping the ante even more were patches of crystal and metal beading on signature sharp shapes – almost geological like on some, streamlined in sheer on others. love the skirt layering too!
