After the success of the series DCAC Sierra Leone, K1X offers up a new collaboration with a group of young African artists. The “Folorunsho” are 20 young people from Freetown in Sierra Leone who have created an amazing variety of traditional designs in tropical colours with tres chic batik! These batiks were then customised and used to produce pairs of sneakers in limited edition – 20 units per colour only and are now sold exclusively at superstore colette, of course. Each glorious pair comes with a photo book that illustrates the creative process and profits are donated directly to the artists. Now that sounds like a sneaker to get freaky about. Colour your world.
I am a huge fan of batik as you may well know and have blogged about its beauty before here. BDWA is currently in the process of producing a range utilising beautiful and traditional batiks from Bali in Indonesia – watch this space.
