Top 5 from the BIG apple.

It’s that hectic time of year again in September when the fashion month across the New York, London, Milan and Paris shows collide with London Design Festival. This year I will be dedicating more of my time to the design side of things at London Design Festival with a focus on collaborative efforts, sustainability in design, indigenous design as inspiration and Made in Britain. I will be downsizing my Fashion Week updates to a Top 5 per city aside from a London Top Ten..because of all the amazing talent here. To grab a dose of street style from Tommy Ton, head here and for up to the minute news from the catwalk including live streaming of the shows, get yourself to the London Fashion Week website.  There is much to blog about so without further adieu let’s do it.

Dungeons & dragons & Lethal Lolita at Rodarte. A firm favourite of BDWA, this season the collection oozed a sex appeal like never before and in doing so the Mulleavy sisters presented one of their most commercial collections yet, while still holding true to their unique couture-craft vision. Gamers need not apply.

Urban Jungle & Arab Allure at Jeremy Scott. Jeremy Scott makes fashion fun, he’s the super-buff grandaddy of youth culture/couture/controversy. ASAP Rocky, Grimes and Kesh in the front row says so. He laid the golden path for designers like Cassette Playa and Astrid Andersen amongst many, who are having their time in the spotlight and on the street right this minute & TBC. I mean any designer that sends a man, that man down the catwalk in giraffe print overalls is doing his job well in my mind. Hello Daddy.

Complex Geometry & Power Palette at Threeasfour. Another BDWA favourite and another more wearable collection meaning $$$ in the bank for Gabi, Ange and Abi. Continuing with their intricate cuts, this season was more about high-end sport or haute sport as I like to call it, than their typically top heavy form with print, laden with meaning. Electric colour combinations and complex cut-outs topped this collection off. Their swimsuits should be seen on every babe on every beach by this time next year. Beautiful and Bankable.

Appetite for Decoration & Social Media Manifestation at Proenza Schouler. Jack McCullough and Lazaro Hernandez went to town this season – opening their first store on Madison Avenue after ten solid years in the business and in successfully utilising a huge number of skills across the collection. This multifaceted approach was inspired by Tumblr itself and its random associations and the delight-producing effects of happenstance…. it could have been terribly messy but with their exacting cut and downright downtown demeanour, delightful it was indeed. Shoes = want.

Delightful deconstruct + Haute Sport at Alexander Wang. Words wont do this wonderful from Wang justice. Just wow, even without hint of print it makes my Top 5, ok one print… Wang cuts it so well that you really, really want it because you want to see how the garment  has been worked out. What a vision this man has, an experiment in excellent execution = evolution.
