Pooja Sharma // Drugstore love

As part of our LOVE YOUR MOTHER online retail salon and in wanting to deepen the relationships with the awesome community of women involved, I have asked these extraordinary artists, entrepreneurs and activitsts some questions so that we can get to know them and their ways a little better.

First up is Pooja Sharma of Drugstore, she being the enlightened being, the purveyor of premium, artisan products de beaute, handmade in Melbourne or curated from all over the globe.  I have been using her utterly fabulous Rose Beauty Oil in my RITUAL:SKIN daily and now never start a day without it. Hand-blended in small batches in Melbourne by the mover-shaker herself,  it is super-nourishing, a natural aphrodisiac and exquisite on the nose. I recommend you put it on your face.

Just so you know, the symbology of the rose expresses promise, hope and new beginnings, which in anyone’s language is an awesome way to start the day! Visit the delicious Drugstore to discover the bounty of beauty Pooja creates and curates with care.

What matters most?
For me it’s about life balance, my relationship with my man, family, friends, my dog Barkly & being able to do what I love the most in all areas of my life.

What is your spirit animal?
The New Zealand Fantail! Cheeky, squeaky, silly & cute. I’ve always thought I was a bird in my past life.

How did Drugstore come about?

I’ve always been incredibly interested in skincare, graphics and I absolutely love a well-packaged product. Drugstore was founded on the idea that everyone can enjoy the simple pleasures in life without having to spend all their savings. It’s about being mindful of the small daily routines that we do such as brushing your teeth to applying a face oil that ignites the senses as well as nourishes the skin. It makes you appreciate the mini moments that often get overlooked.

What are your beauty rituals?
Haha! My partner will laugh as I have a very strict beauty ritual! I’ve been doing this since I was 12. The products have changed over the years, but the ritual always remains the same! Cleanse once or twice depending on whether I’m wearing makeup, tone, eye cream, serum & finally my moisturiser, which is my face oil. Both morning and night, no matter what! I never miss a day.

What is the future of beauty // beauty products in your mind?

Progressing towards being all natural again, no testing on animals, reducing environmental damage, and working with what the skin naturally produces. My favourite product is the Drugstore Rose Face Oil which I hand-blend using organic and natural essential oils.

What are your hopes and dreams for the future?
One mega dream is to be able to run my business from somewhere tropical and seaside.
Having a well balanced life and just being able to be creative and continually creating new things would be dreamy. I would also like to give back to a community or organisation through Drugstore. Helping people is something I strongly believe in so I am currently figuring out who and how I can help. Watch this space.

You’re a multi-talented women who oozes style and energy! Tell us how you balance running your own business, being an alchemist, teaching at RMIT and kicking ass in boxing class!

Haha! So kind of you, I have lols of energy! Even as a teen I always participated in a lot of extra curricular activities, cricket, dance, school bands, art, life! I’m pretty good at creating my own deadlines and sticking to them. I guess I enjoy the juggle & I don’t think I could have it any other way.

Rituals for self-care?

One of my most favourite things to do is to just be by the sea. I’ll go there whenever I feel like I need to reconnect with myself. If I want to retreat or rejig, I go to my friend’s farm.. the boys from Shag Melbourne, located just out of Daylesford. I actually just want to just be around them and their incredibly positive vibes.

Real life heroes?

Sarah Longbottom from Ngā Rangatahi Toa and Jeremy & Grant from Shag Melbourne.

Boss tunes?
I’m currently listening to A.P.S.D’s ‘Digital Dust’, Psychemagik’s ‘Ritual Chants’, a mash up of FACT Mag Mixes, anything from Exit Records, Solange Knowles, Juju Rogers and always revisiting my childhood 90’s RnB & Hip Hop tunes.
