LOVE Handwoven Fan
FAN AS ART • LOVE is all you need! Kwesi created these fantastic fairtrade fans from the heart and we wanted to share his expression of creativity and love with you all too! To artfully fan yourself with, hang on your walls as a daily reminder or added into your favourite vase of flowers.
The compact size of these fans give great insight and understanding of the incredible craftsmanship of the Baba Tree Artisans with whom I am lucky enough to collaborate with. Each fan holds an energy and vibrancy that is completely unique!
Your purchase of this handwoven fan assists us at A4D to continue ethical employment with The Baba Tree and promotes artisan innovation and entrepreneurship.
BACKSTORY: These fans were used and are still used by women in traditional Gurunsi funeral ceremonies in the Upper East region of Ghana. The women dance with the fans while singing “Kingkelenga” supporting the men’s war dance sung and performed during traditional burial rites. These same women weave these fans and are happy to share their incredible craft and culture. Also, for the use of keeping cool.
